The green pepper is visible inside the red basket in the high view. Of the three peppers, two are now inside. In the left wrist view, the remaining yellow pepper overlaps the watch’s upper-right side, so lowering the open gripper onto the watch may push the pepper. At the current link6 height of 0.961 m, the right finger appears beyond image x = 500, the pepper spans roughly x = 280–640 and y = 0–200, and the watch center is near (320, 190). During descent, the watch will grow in the image and move downward; the pepper may do the same. I need to assess the physical clearance rather than rely only on their image overlap.
Using the watch center at [-0.18, -0.088] m and the yellow pepper at [-0.133, -0.112] m in world X–Y, the pepper is offset by +0.047 m in X and -0.024 m in Y. The fingers close along world Y at x = -0.18 m, with an estimated open half-gap of 0.05 m and finger thickness along X of 0.015 m. A pepper radius of 0.03 m puts its left edge at x = -0.163 m. The finger’s outer edge might be at x = -0.17 m, leaving only 0.007 m of clearance. The fingers would be near y = -0.038 m and -0.138 m; the pepper at y = -0.112 m is only 0.026 m from the negative-Y finger, so corner contact is possible.
The fingers extend downward along local X. Is their thickness along local Z directed toward world -X? For Ry(90°), local Z is actually world +X, [1, 0, 0]. With an estimated depth of 0.02 m along world X, I again get an outer finger edge at x = -0.17 m and about 7 mm of clearance from the pepper. The descent might clear it, but the watch is partly beneath the pepper’s overhang. Grasping the band near its left or front edges might work. Closing along Y would contact the near and far band sides, with the near finger at y = -0.138 m close to the pepper. It could pinch the watch while nudging the pepper.
I could move the watch away first by pushing it with a finger or partially closing and dragging it toward the front-left, but recovering from a collision would be costly. Another option is to grasp the yellow pepper with the left arm, place it temporarily in a clear location nearer the right arm, and then regrasp the unobstructed watch. For a left-arm pepper grasp at [-0.133, -0.112] m, closing along world Y seems safer than closing along X. The watch is to its left and back at [-0.18, -0.088] m. With Y closure, I estimate the fingers’ X extent as -0.15 to -0.116 m and the watch’s right edge at -0.145 m, giving a possible 0.005 m overlap. With X closure and a half-gap of 0.05 m, the left finger would be at x = -0.183 m, directly beside the watch.
After lifting the pepper, I could place it temporarily at [0.15, -0.20] m in X–Y, although x = 0.15 m may be too far for the left arm even at y = -0.2 m and z = 1.0 m. A table placement at [0.05, -0.20] m or [0, -0.18] m would make it easier for the right arm to pick up. This adds moves but clears the watch and brings the pepper into the right workspace. A central handoff is another possibility now that the right arm is free, but the skill advises avoiding two-arm manipulation of one object unless necessary. Temporary table placement is allowed by the task, and 858 control steps remain. The larger pepper may also be easier to grasp securely than the watch.
I should improve the watch grasp when I return to it. Its opening command was 0.31 at obs_000210 and 0.302 at obs_000215, so it looked held during the lift, but the command reached zero during transport. Perhaps it was balanced on the closed fingers rather than firmly pinched, or perhaps it was held and slipped under acceleration during the 12-step move. I could pinch across the band’s diameter at solid opposing contact points, center the pads more accurately across the band and face, let closure settle fully, and use slower, smaller transport motions. Another possibility is to keep it low after the test lift and rotate slightly to check the hold. I am considering 10 steps for closure, a 0.02 m lift, and another closure check before transport. I will address that later.
A better alternative may be to have the right arm pick the yellow pepper directly while the left arm stays clear. The pepper at x = -0.133 m, y = -0.112 m is 0.433 m across from the right base at x = 0.3 m. It might be reachable with a downward pose at z = 1.0 m, and transport to the red basket would then be straightforward. From the current right pose [0.33, -0.079, 1.04] m, a target at [-0.133, -0.112, 1.0] m is about 0.464 m away, exceeding the 0.25 m command limit. I would need intermediate poses such as [0.15, -0.12, 1.04] m, then [-0.08, -0.12, 1.0] m, and finally [-0.133, -0.112, 0.96] m.
The right arm’s 0.433 m cross-table reach is greater than the left arm’s roughly 0.3 m reach to the blue basket, which was difficult. However, y = -0.112 m is closer to the base than the basket center at y = 0, so the pepper may still be reachable. If it is not, the left arm can move the pepper temporarily. I could retract the left arm to an open, high pose at [-0.25, -0.20, 1.03] m while the right arm approaches. Once the pepper is removed, the left arm can regrasp the watch without adjacent-gripper interference.
The right approach must clear the cars. Moving from about [0.33, -0.08] m to [0.15, -0.12] m in X–Y passes near the yellow car at [0.22, -0.16] m. At link6 z = 1.04 m, I estimate fingertip height at 0.88 m, above the car. Continuing toward [-0.133, -0.112] m passes over the middle white car at [0.076, -0.154] m. With fingertips at 0.88 m and the car top estimated at 0.78 m, I expect clearance.
The final pepper grasp still needs an orientation that avoids the watch. A downward gripper closing along world Y, with wxyz quaternion [0.707, 0, 0.707, 0], would have the watch offset by -0.047 m in X and +0.024 m in Y. With a 0.02 m finger thickness along X, I estimate the finger’s left edge at -0.153 m and the watch’s right edge at -0.145 m, a possible 0.008 m overlap. Straddling the pepper’s front and back lobes might work, but it could nudge the watch.
A diagonal closing direction should provide better clearance. The vector from the pepper to the watch is [-0.047, +0.024], approximately normalized to [-0.89, +0.455]. Closing parallel to that vector would put one finger toward the watch. A perpendicular closing axis, [0.455, 0.89] or [-0.455, -0.89], is safer. The current world-Y closing axis [0, 1] has a dot product of 0.024 with the unnormalized separation vector; compared with a center distance of about 0.053 m, that gives a cosine of about 0.45. The desired axis [0.455, 0.89] is approximately 63 degrees from world X.
Starting from the downward orientation with local Y along world Y, a world-Z rotation maps [0, 1] to [-sin θ, cos θ]. To obtain [0.455, 0.89], I need sin θ = -0.455 and cos θ = 0.89, or θ approximately -27 degrees. This keeps local X pointing downward and makes the fingers close perpendicular to the pepper-to-watch vector. I still need to consider thickness along local Z, but this seems to maximize clearance. Once the pepper is removed, the watch will no longer have that neighboring constraint.
The right target rotation is Rz(-27°) multiplied by Ry(90°). Local X remains [0, 0, -1], local Y becomes approximately [0.454, 0.891, 0], and local Z becomes [0.891, -0.454, 0]. My quaternion estimate uses cos(-13.5°) ≈ 0.97237, sin(-13.5°) ≈ -0.23345, and cos(45°) ≈ 0.7071. The w component is 0.97237 × 0.7071 ≈ 0.68755. The x component is -(-0.23345 × 0.7071) ≈ +0.16505, the y component is about 0.68755, and the z component is about -0.16505. That gives the wxyz target [0.68755, 0.16505, 0.68755, -0.16505]. Its distance from the current tilted right orientation [0.271, 0.653, 0.653, -0.271] might be around 0.9 radians, but I need to calculate it. An intermediate orientation may be necessary.
I will try the right-arm cross-table approach rather than move the pepper temporarily. It seems plausible that the right arm can reach the left pepper around x = -0.13 m and y = -0.1 m, though that remains unverified. The first proposed right target is [0.15, -0.13, 1.04] m with the diagonal downward orientation, about 0.187 m from its current position. I will calculate the exact orientation distance first. If it exceeds 1.0 radian, I can use an intermediate orientation; I could also return to downward world-Y closure first and rotate later.
For the planned clearance move, I will retract the open left gripper to [-0.28, -0.20, 1.04] m with its downward orientation, away from the watch. The right arm will approach [0.15, -0.13, 1.04] m. Before commanding motion, I will calculate the right target quaternion, its distance from the measured current orientation, and an interpolated alternative.
