Could the right arm’s failure to cross the center at z=1.1 m be caused by its downward orientation, or is it near its reach limit? I had estimated the preceding motion as about 0.244 m; is that estimate right? The precheck stalled with about 65 mm of position error. Perhaps a roll or yaw change would help, since the fully downward wrist configuration may be singular across the center. I could try a 45° forward tilt at right-arm position [0.02, −0.08, 1.07] m, with wxyz quaternion [0.653, −0.271, 0.271, 0.653]. I estimate that as a 0.207 m position change and a 0.785 rad orientation change. It may be reachable, although the orientation change might affect only joint 6 and do little to help the elbow.
The 65 mm position error could instead indicate insufficient reach. If the right base is at x=0.3 m, crossing to x=−0.02 m requires 0.32 m horizontally, perhaps combined with about 0.5 m in y, for an arm whose length might be 0.6 m. Would raising the target help? At z=1.1 m it may be closer to shoulder height. Tilting forward toward +y could help the wrist posture, but the local X orientation may not directly affect the rest of the chain before the wrist. Reaching from a base at x=0.3 m to x=−0.3 m requires 0.6 m across, perhaps combined with 0.6 m in y, which could exceed a reach of 0.7 m.
I may need to transfer the pepper to the left arm, either directly or by temporarily placing it in the middle. Could the left arm reach the right pepper directly? Reaching x=0.4 m would involve about 0.7 m across, although the object at y=−0.15 m is nearer the front than the basket at y=0.1 m. A transfer between the grippers at x=0 m, y=−0.2 m could work, followed by the left arm placing the pepper in its basket. That is complicated but potentially doable. Another possibility is for the right arm to reach the basket with the initial orientation, fingers pointing horizontally forward and the wrist lower. However, a target near [−0.3, −0.03, 1.07] m may be about 0.86 m from an estimated base at [0.3, −0.65, 0.9] m, beyond a possible maximum reach of 0.6 m. Directly reaching the right pepper with the left arm may likewise involve offsets of about 0.7 m and 0.5 m, giving about 0.86 m.
These base and reach estimates remain uncertain. The bases may be at x=±0.3 m, y=−0.6 m. For the right object at x=0.407 m, y=−0.149 m, I estimate offsets from the left base of about 0.7 m and 0.45 m, or 0.83 m overall, which seems too far. Yet this sorting task may be designed to let both arms reach all the destinations. Does the ARX X5 have a reach of 550 mm? The objects are around x=0.4 m. If the right base were at x=0.3 m, y=−0.45 m, the geometry would differ. Its initial end effector is at [0.3, −0.352, 0.922] m, so perhaps the base is near [0.3, −0.55, 0.87] m with an arm length of 0.55 m. Under that estimate, a direct left-arm grasp of the right pepper would be impossible.
Could the right arm place the pepper through the nearer side of the left basket, around x=−0.2 m, y=0.05 m, with a reach near 0.6 m and the fingers extending forward? That may be feasible. I should better understand the base location from the initial zero joint configuration. The initial link6 positions are x=±0.3 m, y=−0.352 m, z=0.922 m. A possible base position is x=±0.3 m, y=−0.6 m, z=0.79 m. Does the arm point horizontally forward at zero joints? The y and z offsets would be 0.248 m and 0.132 m, about 0.28 m overall. If the maximum arm length is 0.55 m, reaching a basket at x=−0.3 m, y=0.1 m from the right base would require offsets of 0.6 m and 0.7 m, or 0.92 m, which seems impossible. Perhaps the base is instead at x=0 m, y=−0.45 m, although my visual interpretation placed the left base near x=−0.3 m and the front bases around x=±0.35 m, y=−0.68 m.
The task may expect sliding or passing objects. Both arms can likely reach a transfer point at x=0 m, y=−0.2 m. The right gripper currently holds the pepper pointing downward, and the empty left arm is at [−0.227, −0.084, 1.048] m, nearly downward. I could bring the left to [−0.02, −0.20, 1.02] m and the right to [0.03, −0.20, 1.02] m, both downward. But with both closing along world x and their fingers extending along z, how would the left grasp from the opposite side while the right still holds the pepper? I might need to orient the left closing direction along y, perpendicular to the right. Grasping the top or stem while the right holds the sides is another possibility, but it would be difficult even with the pepper held high enough.
A simpler alternative is to place the pepper on the table near x=0 m, y=−0.24 m, retract the right arm, and let the left pick it up. The first pepper is already in the basket, so only this second pepper needs the extra transfer. A temporary spot around x=0 m, y=−0.25 m should be reachable by the left arm. From the right arm’s current [0.219, −0.128, 1.085] m pose, I could move toward [0.06, −0.22, 0.98] m with the orientation held downward, then set the pepper down. Estimating its bottom as 0.19 m below the end effector puts it at the table height of z=0.75 m when the end effector is at z=0.94 m, the original grasp-height target. The right arm can likely reach [0.06, −0.22, 0.94] m, open, and retract. Meanwhile, the left could wait near [−0.08, −0.27, 1.05] m before approaching. This adds one placement and one grasp, but it avoids a direct gripper-to-gripper transfer.
I need a clear temporary spot. The front wooden toy is near x=0.02 m, y=−0.20 m, the red bar near x=−0.004 m, y=−0.12 m, and the white bar near x=0.23 m, y=−0.13 m. There appears to be free space farther forward at x=0 m, y=−0.32 m. The right arm can likely reach [0.06, −0.28, 0.95] m, and the left should also be able to reach that area.
I’ll use a temporary pepper location around x=0.03 m, y=−0.31 m, near the clear front area. Moving the right end effector directly to [0.03, −0.31, 0.97] m would be about 0.272 m, exceeding the 0.25 m command limit. A waypoint at [0.10, −0.26, 1.02] m is about 0.194 m away. I’ll move the left toward [−0.10, −0.27, 1.08] m as previously planned and keep the right gripper downward and closed. After that, a right-arm target at [0.03, −0.31, 0.94] m would be about 0.115 m away and may pass the precheck. Once the pepper is set down at [0.03, −0.31] m, the left can approach from x=−0.1 m, y=−0.27 m, grasp it, and carry it to the left basket using the forward tilt that worked before. I’ll briefly explain this change of plan.
