The triangulation suggests that the table may be at z = 0.76–0.77 m, the peppers around z = 0.8 m, the car center around z = 0.79 m, and the watches around z = 0.77 m. Could I adopt a table height of 0.75 m? The red pepper’s bottom triangulated to about z = 0.776 m, but mismatched image points may explain that estimate; the table could be at 0.77 m. Corresponding wood lines in the high and wrist views could help establish the table plane. Triangulating basket corners might be an easier way to determine their height and dimensions.
For a top-down grasp, the fingers extend downward by 0.1576 m. Placing link6 at the object center’s height plus 0.1576 m would put the fingertips at the object center. However, the contact pads extend along the fingers, so perhaps link6 should instead be about 0.12 m above the object center. The fingertips should reach the sides at or slightly below the object center without touching the table. For small objects, setting link6 about 0.16 m above the table would put the tips near the table and the pads around the object’s middle. With a 0.06 m tall pepper and a table at z = 0.76 m, link6 at z = 0.92 m would put the tips at about z = 0.762 m. The pads may extend from about 0.06 to 0.157 m along the fingers, allowing contact near z = 0.8 m. The initial link6 height of 0.9215 m is conveniently close to this estimate.
For a car about 0.04 m tall, I might use link6 at z ≈ 0.915 m. A watch is only about 0.01 m thick, though, and link6 at z = 0.915 m would put the tips near z = 0.757 m. Would that be below the table and cause contact? The tips need to be about 0.005 m above the table. The table might instead be at z = 0.75 m, so I need a more precise height estimate.
Using the high view with an assumed plane at z = 0.76 m gives roughly plausible horizontal positions: green pepper at (−0.281, −0.149) m, red pepper at (−0.191, −0.119) m, yellow pepper at (−0.104, −0.172) m, and silver car at (−0.002, −0.153) m. My tentative estimate for the left watch is x ≈ −0.351 m and y ≈ −0.193 m. The middle watch is around (0.138, −0.122) m. I am less sure about the right watch’s x coordinate, perhaps 0.273 m or about 0.270 m under this plane assumption, and the yellow car’s x coordinate may be about 0.384 m. These estimates suggest spacing of roughly 10 cm between objects.
I should align the closing direction with each object’s shape. The peppers are nearly round and about 5 cm across. For a top-down grasp closing along global X, I can map local X to −Z, local Y to X, and local Z to −Y. The rotation matrix would be [[0, 1, 0], [0, 0, −1], [−1, 0, 0]]. The wxyz quaternion might be [0.5, −0.5, −0.5, −0.5], but I will derive it with SciPy before choosing it. The fingers open and close along local Y.
The silver car is elongated diagonally from the lower left to the upper right in the high view, so I should grasp across its smaller width. Its image length is about 50 pixels, approximately 6 cm, and its width about 25 pixels, approximately 3 cm. Its longitudinal direction runs approximately from (303, 273) to (334, 251), giving image differences of dx = 31 and dy = −22 pixels. At z = 0.78 m, I estimate world differences of dx ≈ 0.105 m and dy ≈ 0.076 m, corresponding to a longitudinal yaw of about +36° from world X. I am unsure which end is the front. A perpendicular closing direction would have yaw −54°.
For a general top-down orientation, let local X point along −Z and local Y lie horizontally at angle phi. Then local Y is (cos phi, sin phi, 0), and local Z is their cross product, (sin phi, −cos phi, 0). With c = cos phi and s = sin phi, the rotation matrix is [[0, c, s], [0, s, −c], [−1, 0, 0]]. At phi = −54°, c ≈ 0.588 and s ≈ −0.809, so local Y is approximately (0.588, −0.809) across the car, and the matrix is [[0, 0.588, −0.809], [0, −0.809, −0.588], [−1, 0, 0]].
The watches appear to have roughly circular or oval bands about 3 cm across, with a face. Perhaps the pads can pinch opposite edges of the strap across its center; grasping the central face is another possibility. The opening needs to exceed 3 cm, and the maximum may be about 8 cm. A top-down grasp closing along world X or Y should be reasonable. The left watch is partly occluded by the initial left gripper, so I need to move that arm away to inspect it.
I could use both arms concurrently for independent picks. One option is to start with the left arm taking the green pepper to the middle basket and the right arm taking a watch to the right basket. The left arm could then handle the red and yellow peppers while the right handles the other nearby watches, followed by the silver car with the left arm and the yellow car with the right. That leaves the leftmost watch to be transported across the table. Perhaps the right arm could collect it after placing the yellow car in the left basket, when that arm is already on the left side.
A more useful order may be to have the right arm take the yellow car to the left basket first, then move farther left and down to collect the leftmost watch and carry it to the right basket, followed by the remaining watches. Meanwhile, the left arm can handle the three peppers and then the silver car. This assigns four objects to each arm: three peppers and the silver car to the left, and three watches and the yellow car to the right. It involves long travel for the right arm but seems feasible within 1100 control steps and avoids a later crossing. I must maintain separation when both arms work near the center or cross the table.
Starting both arms with cars would risk simultaneous placement in the left basket. It seems better to start with the right arm taking the yellow car to the left basket while the left arm takes the green pepper to the middle basket. The baskets are roughly 0.3 m apart, and the grippers may be about 0.12 m wide, so separated placements seem possible. The next motions could cross near the center if the right arm carries the leftmost watch to the right basket while the left carries the red pepper to the middle basket. I can stagger these motions or operate one arm while holding the other.
Sequential operation would reduce collision risk, but the arms’ initial poses may obstruct objects: the left watch is beneath the left gripper, and a right-side watch is near the right gripper. I could move both arms to safe poses before proceeding sequentially. Concurrent operation is encouraged when safe, but it is not necessary. A rough estimate of eight picks, each with five motion calls averaging five steps plus 20 placement steps, gives about 360 steps. There is enough control budget to proceed carefully.
I will start with the green pepper in the left arm and the yellow car in the right, using appropriate top-down yaw orientations. I need to calculate the quaternions and intermediate motions so each target remains within 0.25 m and 1.0 rad of the measured pose. Python and SciPy can provide these orientations. I will refine the object positions with wrist views after approaching.
The green pepper’s estimated center is [−0.283, −0.154, 0.801] m. A possible link6 grasp pose is [−0.283, −0.154, 0.925] m, which would put the tips near z = 0.767 m, just above the tentative table height of 0.76 m. The yellow car’s triangulated body center is about [0.390, −0.121, 0.781] m, but the high view may be identifying the roof while the wrist view identifies a side centroid. Its actual center might have x closer to 0.38 m. Mapping high-camera point (507, 246) at z = 0.79 m gives x ≈ 0.384 m and y ≈ −0.125 m. The roof center may instead be near (505, 241), and the car spans approximately (485, 230) to (529, 264). My working car-center estimate is therefore about [0.384, −0.126, 0.79] m.
A car grasp with link6 at x = 0.384 m, y = −0.126 m, z = 0.91 m would put the tips near z = 0.752 m using the 0.1576 m finger extent. That would be about 0.008 m below a table at z = 0.76 m and could cause contact. Link6 at z = 0.925 m instead puts the tips at z = 0.7674 m, about 0.007 m above the table, which seems suitable for contacting the car’s lower sides. I can use the same link6 height for the pepper, with tips near z = 0.767 m.
The rotation from the initial 90° yaw orientation to top-down may be about 120°, or 2.094 rad, so a direct target would exceed the 1.0 rad orientation bound. I need intermediate orientations, which I can calculate with SciPy using spherical interpolation or rotation vectors.
Before rotating, I should lift into clear space. Rotating at the initial link6 height of 0.9215 m could swing the fingers into nearby objects. The green pepper is around x = −0.28 m, y = −0.15 m, close to the initial left fingertip at approximately x = −0.3 m, y = −0.195 m, z = 0.921 m. Its top may be at z = 0.83 m, leaving only about 0.09 m below the horizontal fingers. Rotation sweeps the fingertips through a radius of about 0.157 m around link6 and could reach the pepper.
A safer option is to keep the current orientation and lift link6 to about z = 1.08 m, a vertical increase of about 0.158 m. Then I can rotate to top-down through three intermediate steps at that height before moving horizontally above the objects. I could lift both arms concurrently by about 0.15 m, perhaps over five control steps. A link6 height of 1.1 m may be reachable, but that remains subject to the kinematic precheck. From the initial left position [−0.2995, −0.3523, 0.9215] m and the corresponding right position with x ≈ 0.30047 m, I am considering an initial target height of z = 1.07 m over five steps, followed by intermediate quaternion targets. Tilting 45° while moving over the objects is another option, but lifting first seems safer.
I will calculate the top-down orientations and intermediate quaternions, and save concise notes about the object estimates and arm assignments in work/notes.md for later reference.
